Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die

Depends on the context in which it is being used.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
The main problem is that this person was taking these photos and reposting them without giving me credit, and allowing others to think that s/he had made the items and taken the pictures him/herself.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
So I've been subbing in an elementary art class for the last few weeks, and today I discovered that one of my fourth graders can't read. Like ... at all. The inner city is a depressing place sometimes.
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
Wow! That is completely out of my realm of experience- and very depressing. Good for you, Emiliana.
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
sometimes people who can't read end up finding really interesting ways around it. "oh, I left my glasses at home, can you read this for me?" They end up getting to be really, really good listeners. But uh, yeah. It's good to learn how to read and stuff.

Why is it that the university of a church with core principles of kindness and goodwill to men would consistently tip the most poorly?

Do they tip more poorly than students at other universities? I always just chalked it up to poor, starving college students.Marduk wrote:Why is it that the university of a church with core principles of kindness and goodwill to men would consistently tip the most poorly?
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
Yes, they do. And this isn't (usually) the students, either. For example, the math department was having some sort of shin dig, one in which BYU picked up the tab. On a three hundred dollar order, which took 4 trips to the third floor of the Wilk and over an hour of my time, I was tipped five bucks. But it happens very frequently when I deliver to BYU for department functions, or other things where it is clearly the university, not the students, paying.

I miss Katya. Where has she been? [pout]
Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
I'll have you know, Marduk, that when I had to sign the check for pizza deliveries for the department I worked in I gave a pretty good tip! At least I thought so. Is 15% good on a couple hundred dollars worth of pizza?
On second thought, maybe the people signing those things really don't know how to tip on such huge amounts of pizza. At least, I didn't. I felt bad when the delivery folks had to carry in multiple things and tried to give more to them. Anyway, since when do I defend BYU.

So, the dude on facebook that I'm "friends" with? You know the one who posts distorted graphs blaming Obama for 90% of the debt, says that Darwin is the spawn of the devil, and says that gay people are the equivalent of satanists and pedophiles?
Apparently he is good friends with Nanti Sarmm. Yeah, that totally makes sense.

i've had 8th graders who can't read. do you know if the kid is special ed? a lot of times districts let the special ed kids just slide through because they don't have the resources to really help them. it's one of the reasons i HATE mainstreaming. we're not actually helping these kids, and (for example) i don't know ANYTHING about special ed kids and how to help them or how to modify assignments. so the kids suffer because teachers don't get enough training.Emiliana wrote:So I've been subbing in an elementary art class for the last few weeks, and today I discovered that one of my fourth graders can't read. our educational system needs a serious overhaul. there's nothing wrong with admitting kids are different and kids with certain special needs need to be in their own classroom and/or school.

Re: Nine for Random Chatter, doomed to die
Well, he's not identified as special ed by the district, but I suspect he's been pushed through because it take a whole lot of work to get a kid identified, and teachers don't have that kind of time. And some of them just don't care. Sigh.Imogen wrote:i've had 8th graders who can't read. do you know if the kid is special ed? a lot of times districts let the special ed kids just slide through because they don't have the resources to really help them. it's one of the reasons i HATE mainstreaming. we're not actually helping these kids, and (for example) i don't know ANYTHING about special ed kids and how to help them or how to modify assignments. so the kids suffer because teachers don't get enough training.Emiliana wrote:So I've been subbing in an elementary art class for the last few weeks, and today I discovered that one of my fourth graders can't read. ^ Why one should always read Random Chatter from the top down, not vice verse.Emiliana wrote:Well, he's not identified as special ed by the district, but I suspect he's been pushed through because it take a whole lot of work to get a kid identified, and teachers don't have that kind of time. I had a dream that she started dating a guy really seriously and that's why she stopped checking the board board. She just didn't have time.Dragon Lady wrote:I miss Katya. Where has she been? [pout]
… at least, I'm pretty sure it was a dream. I can't think of any real-life evidence that points to that.

Dear Office Depot,
I need tiny sheet protectors. You only sell them online. HOW ARE YOU OUT OF STOCK?!?!?!?!

Maybe they're thinking that reducing supply will increase demand.
It reminds me of how I have gone to Taco Bell because that's the only place you can get Baja Blast Mountain Dew and ended up buying a chalupa or something else like a good sheep. I don't know why Office Depot would rather steer you online, though, assuming my hypothesis were true, for a moment.
