So, first of all, this was pretty interesting to me. A great question, and good explanation!

But, I also wanted to mention that papayas are actually more similar to strawberries than avocados, as their seeds are actually quite small.

I sent this in as a comment, but it got rejected:

We talked about this back in my Biology class and if I remember correctly, it's so that the avocado tree can grow quickly when the climate is right. Avocado trees are persnickety things that hate cold, like humidity, and have a bunch of other preferences. Thus, they grow as fast as they can when they are able, and having a large seed means they get a head start.
