I definitely suggest striking out on her own if she can. Great things can lie that way. But since she has bills to pay she'd better either have a part-time job or have some savings before trying to make a living selling her work.

If she does want to try selling her work, I can give her all sorts of advice (and point her even more advice). Especially if she wants to set up on Etsy.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

I didn't go in with high expectations, but John Carter was wonderful. Terrible title, great movie.

I'd like to see it. But then again I read the book, I think. It would have been a long time ago.

I listened to the book a while ago, and I'm generally a sci-fi fan. I thought this looked cheesy and formulaic, and it is a little pulpy, but in the best possible way. Princess of Mars was kind of the start of pulpy science fiction anyway, right?

I just got a promotional tweet about your store from Duck Brand. Way to get noticed!

I like when I find a name or concept in science with a funny backstory. Apparently, in the bread world, it is widely agreed that sourdough from San Francisco is particularly good due in part to the fact that for over 100 years, local bakers have been culturing a particular strain of yeast that is particularly good at converting maltose into lactic acid and acetic acid, which gives the sourdough a nice sour flavor. The scientific name of that bacterium is Lactobacillus sanfrancisco :)

Edit: Darn! In 1997 they had to go and conform to the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria Rule 12c and make it into a substantive noun "in apposition" by changing the name to Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis. (source)

Thanks, Katya! Being on Duck Brand's radar has done us a ton of good.

Congratulations. Do you have an intended specialty figured out yet?

Thanks! Internal medicine is at the top of my list right now, with family medicine and pediatrics tied for second. And emergency medicine is a distant third - I like the idea of working a lot of night shifts, and I really love emerg docs, but I don't love the idea of seeing a patient once and then never seeing them again. But I haven't completely crossed it off the list yet.

Poor Andrew Stanton. I guess former Pixar directors are only 1 for 2 in the last year.
I see a "Hunger Games facts" meme in the making.

I love LaTeX too. :) How do you use it for circuits? (I've only done physics/math with it.)

The circuitikz package, which is an extension of TikZ. It's so much faster and nicer looking than using GIMP and embedding PNGs once you learn the notation :)

Guys, I feel like one of the world's most incompetent human beings lately. Sunday I had to call my best friend from high school and apologize for getting drunk at her birthday party the night before (something I had never done before, and never intend to do again). Then tonight I realized that I hadn't finished some very important preparations for a very important job interview that I have tomorrow.
