Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I'm sorry. I woke up this morning, and spent most of the day when not at work, indulging in tears of exasperation because I hate my job. But then I stay at work and find myself enjoying it a little bit.

Aw, I've had jobs like that. I hope things get better.Unit of Energy wrote:I'm sorry. I woke up this morning, and spent most of the day when not at work, indulging in tears of exasperation because I hate my job. But then I stay at work and find myself enjoying it a little bit.

I know for a fact that you're not the world's most incompetent being. : ) If it's any comfort, I failed to acknowledge my best friend from freshman year's birthday (I've become extraordinarily awkward since she had her baby, and always use that as an excuse in my mind, though to be honest, I probably feel "left out" from her whirlwind engagement/wedding/procreating and maybe a little unsure now that our lives are so different?), I'm too poor to buy drinks, and although I extended my job through the summer due to "the economy wahn wahn wonk wah wah" there won't be a job for me here next school year. And I love my job. And HATE job hunting. Think of this decade as the screenplay for the First Act, before we're thirty and have some glamorous nebulous Manhattan job and not one, but two boyfriends who are both muscular pastry chefs and inconceivably rich.Emiliana wrote:Guys, I feel like one of the world's most incompetent human beings lately. Sunday I had to call my best friend from high school and apologize for getting drunk at her birthday party the night before (something I had never done before, and never intend to do again). Then tonight I realized that I hadn't finished some very important preparations for a very important job interview that I have tomorrow.

Isn't there a website where you can go type what you remember about a book and people help you figure out what it is?

Here is my first world problem/hippie freakshow of the day. It is really starting to drive me crazy and make mad when people call reusable menstrual products "mama cloth." Because there are plenty of us who aren't mothers who use them too!!!!!!
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Try Goodreads. Yeah, that's technically for requests on what to read next, but plenty of people use it to find books they can't remember.Dragon Lady wrote:Isn't there a website where you can go type what you remember about a book and people help you figure out what it is?

LibraryThing has a similar forum (although you might have more success with GR's larger user base). And there's another website in addition to the one Mico suggested, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.Dragon Lady wrote:Isn't there a website where you can go type what you remember about a book and people help you figure out what it is?

You guys... the universe bends to my will.
I literally bribed my way past one secretary this morning and flirted with two more, just to get past rules that aren't meant to be broken. The professor I did this for had better be happy. I want a raise!

As a secretary, this makes me sad. On the other hand, good job?Craig Jessop wrote:You guys... the universe bends to my will.

I hate to think how many people across the United States are going to spend hundreds of dollars on Mega Millions tickets between now and Friday.

now I'm very curious about your job Craig! Does it involve JOURNALISM?

Had to do mental math on this: that's over 2% in Utah, or roughly the same proportion as, say, Jews or Mormons in the U.S. Why would the autism rate be so high here?! I thought there was a link with advanced maternal age: are these autistic children often the youngest in a large family here with a mom well into her 30s/40s? Is it trendy?

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Small clarification Portia: that's the autism DIAGNOSIS rate, not necessarily the autism rate. A significant possible factor, as mentioned in the article, is that it is possibly getting over-diagnosed, or under-diagnosed in places like Alabama with much lower incidence rate.

This doesn't sound like a happy life to me (but best of luck to you).Portia wrote:Think of this decade as the screenplay for the First Act, before we're thirty and have some glamorous nebulous Manhattan job and not one, but two boyfriends who are both muscular pastry chefs and inconceivably rich.
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Agreed Katya. Two boyfriends would be way too much for me to keep up with.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Ok, I don't know if this is some kind of new thing, or if I just have weird friends. But all of a sudden a bunch of my LDS friends have changed their facebook profile picture to that picture of Christ coming out of the tomb. I know it's Easter and everything, but that's just a bit much. I have no problem with people posting all the pictures they want of Christ on their wall, but it seems a bit weird to make it your profile picture, since your profile picture is ostensibly a picture of you, and all of these people are not Christ. Has anyone else noticed this, or is this just a weird Southern Alberta thing (because it seems to be all Southern Alberta people who are doing it)?
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
You crazy Southern Albertans! (I have not noticed this. I'll let you know if the trend crosses the border.)NerdGirl wrote:Has anyone else noticed this, or is this just a weird Southern Alberta thing (because it seems to be all Southern Alberta people who are doing it)?
