At events in the legal world, you can almost always tell the female attorneys from the wives of male attorneys by the way they dress. Female attorneys wear suits, while attorneys' wives wear cocktail dresses. It makes sense, since the attorneys are there in a professional capacity and the wives are there in a social capacity. But it's an interesting phenomenon.

Ditto for formal military affairs, except that the women are in dress uniform vs. a cocktail dress. (Of course, there you can also tell the men apart by uniform vs. suit or tux.)

ditto for E3 (gaming expo for industry professionals), where the booth babes are wearing almost nothing, or sometimes casual dress, and the professionals dress up sometimes, or sometimes they get confused for each other and it's embarrassing all around
