I just remembered an experience from fourth grade that's applicable. My best friend at the time was a Muslim from Pakistan. One day, our teacher called my friend over to her desk. She proceeded to scold her (loudly enough for the class to hear) for drawing on herself with an orange marker and being messy and distracting to the other students. She told her that she was a bad example of how to behave in school.

This went on for a few minutes, and my friend was on the verge of tears when she finally got a chance to explain that it was Ramadan, and that the designs were henna. Awkward. My teacher was pretty embarrassed. I would also be embarrassed (though not shocked) if something similar were to happen at BYU.

In other news, I got two henna tattoos yesterday. Don't regret it. Don't think I've breaking the honor code. In fact, my siblings and I did the tattoos together, so I think it promoted healthy familial bonding.
