People who think that the Honor Code Office is just ducky have invariably never been a penitent at said office (let alone a falsely accused one).

yeah, I'm glad Rating Pending was able to talk about that because everyone who I've talked to has been really upset at their guilty until proven innocent stance

Yeah, I had a bit of a run-in myself with the HCO once (which I've probably told the story of on here before), and they were only accusing me of withholding information about something that someone else was (to the best of my knowledge, falsely) accused of. I don't have a problem with BYU having an honor code (even if I do think parts of it are absurd), but I do have a huge problem with the way it is enforced.

I had a roommate who tried to convince them to let him have a "long hair exception." I mean, they do it for beards, right? And he only wanted to grow it out to chop it off and donate...

For some reason they told him no.

One semester one of the service organizations at my conservative Christian college put on a big Locks of Love shing-dig. They announced it months in advance and encouraged everyone to grow out their hair, but then there was trouble with the administration because *technically* men couldn't have long hair. That particular rule wasn't enforced all that strictly under normal circumstances, though. It was ridiculous.

Whoa. I never knew the HCO was so evil!
I'm seriously never leaving the HFAC again.

So, Rating Pending was talking about Hypatia, right? I looked for the Board question where she talked about it but I couldn't find it.

All my links are broken in that question. Creepy/funny SHA posters are what I think of when I think of the Honor Code - not the official enforcers, but the kids who are gee-whiz enough about it to want to join a club about it.
