I didn't ever just walk around the apartment naked, but I think I certainly have a higher tolerance for nudity than most mormons. Guys in the locker room used to get very uncomfortable when I'd sit down next to them and start talking to them, just because I was naked. I mean hey, it is a locker room! If I can't be naked here, then where CAN I be naked?!
And Craig, I hope you enjoy the conversation with your bishop.

Once upon a time I was in a long-distance relationship of sorts (actually I've been in several, but that's a story for another day) with a guy we'll call The Jerk. We Skyped pretty often. One day (late at night my time, mid-afternoon his time) we were on Skype and one of his roommates walked by in the line of sight ... wearing only his boxers. The Jerk didn't notice. I pretended not to either. Then he walked by again. And again. It was becoming quite obvious (to me) that this was intentional. Finally The Jerk noticed, turned a really awkward shade of purple, and turned so that his back was to the wall. It was pretty hilarious.

Again, don't hang out with me. Especially since I prefer v-neck shirts with miles of cleavage (nothing I can do about that) to sweaters.Digit wrote:...though wearing a sweater, had to be at least 44DD.
I was recently reading a chapter-by-chapter review of the Twilight series written by a gay non-member who knew some things about Mormons. It was interesting how much in the books he and the commenters assumed was Mormon propaganda. One thing that basically everyone agrees is Mormon propaganda is the submission of female characters to male, especially in romantic relationships. As for the "drawn-out, crazy dramatic" part, that's just amateur writing that unfortunately she's probably not going to grow out of because it's worked for her.krebscout wrote:...except for the semi-abusive, drawn-out, crazy dramatic love triangle. "Don't ask for her opinion, I know how she thinks, I'll answer for her..." is pretty much straight out of the book. This seems to be her way of ratcheting up the sexual tension? I'm really not sure.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

My main complaint with the 50 Shades phenomenon is that they are, by all accounts, horribly written. Ellen DeGeneres reading passages out loud made my day.
And maybe it makes me vanilla and sex-negative (I don't really care, considering what an uptight prude I was for so long, it's a small miracle I can function around attractive men), but I don't think one has to be equally accepting of everyone's kinks. I know it doesn't follow the Dan Savage line of thought, but whether it's a man or woman on the receiving end of whips, tasers, whatever, I maintain that pain is bad, humiliation is wrong, that the "S" in BDSM means Sadism and have you READ the Marquis de Sade? Even the Wikipedia article made me nauseated because it is just so screwed up.
It's similar to the fact that I see why people find threesomes sexually arousing, but I think they are very nearly always a Bad Idea. I might be the horniest member of this here board, but I think that your partner's emotions and needs ought to come first. I honestly don't see how things which are legit dangerous fit into that. People DIE from autoerotic asphyxiation! These are real scars and bruises we're talking about, not "har har you're tied up now with this scarf wink wink." If this makes me Betty Draper, so be it.

I never expected that I would be speaking up for the kinksters among us but hey. Why not.
There are all different (dare I say it) shades of BDSM, everything from hair pulling and name calling to fully designed dungeons in people's basements. And Portia, you are clearly not a masochist but lots of people are, and they enjoy pain and find that pain/humiliation play/whatever is enjoyable and helps them create meaningful sexual relationships. And those people need "sadists" in order to feel sexually fulfilled. I put sadists in quotation marks because I would venture that most people who engage in BDSM play (or even most people with the aforementioned dungeons in their basements) never use a taser and never engage in autoerotic asphyxiation. (Even Dan Savage strongly advises against autoerotic asphyxiation or any kind of breath play.) BDSM is mostly about power and the exchange of that power and the erotic dynamic that that sometimes creates. Most people who engage in BDSM play spend at least a little time in both the dominant and submissive roles, though they may prefer one or the other. (This is like in gay land, where there are hardly any 100% "tops" or "bottoms.")
You guys, I think I have officially heard too many episodes of the Savage Lovecast. I admit it.
