It's ok, Yog. I can't light matches. Or drive.

Re: Yog Can't Tie Shoelaces
We recently discovered that I can't frown, at least not on purpose. Also I had to teach one half of my mouth to smile. Also, those can openers that break the seal instead of cutting the metal? They never work for me.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

I didn't learn how to tie my shoes properly until I was in my late 20's. (There's hope, Yog!) It turns out that you have to do the first knot one way and the second knot the reverse way so that it makes a square knot (which won't untie) instead of a granny knot (which will).
Re: Yog Can't Tie Shoelaces
May I ask a sincere question without being interpreted as being rude? Is it a matter of remembering the steps, or is it a matter of eye-hand coordination with the laces? If you don't want to discuss it, by all means ignore me. As for the latter possibility, I know that I have tried at various times to learn how to juggle at least three equally-weighted things, but the best I've ever been able to do is maybe 7-8 seconds.

Yeah, I watched this TED talk that made me change the way I tie my shoes, thinking I was now doing it better, but it actually messed me up because I do the first over-under a different way than this guy, and he doesn't mention that. Basically, if you go over with the left lace in your first step, and do the loop on your left, you're fine--no need to do his crazy reverse tie for the last step. This site goes through it correctly and gives a good chart to follow.Katya wrote:I didn't learn how to tie my shoes properly until I was in my late 20's. (There's hope, Yog!) My shoes still come untied often enough no matter how I tie them. If I'm in hiking boots, I actually prefer the granny knot so the loops don't catch on things.

There are always the highly comfortable Merrells.

Ahhh you guys are great! Story-sharing of things you can't do PLUS links to shoe-tying vids and alternatives to shoelacey shoes? This is the best thread ever. <3
