History of Trunk or Treat

Post by mic0 »

Link.

YOU GUYS! THIS IS THE PROUDEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!!!

Yes, I wrote the (entirely made up) story of the historyof trunk or treating and someone believed it. I wonder if that was the blog the question asker was referring to, because I kind of wished it was a more reputable blog/or one with a wide LDS following.

Nevertheless, reading that new question just made me so excited. :D Gullible people are fun. In the original story I mentioned how the pioneer children had no doorsteps to trick or treat at and the blog that referenced my story used that little "fact." Hilarious!

Hah, that is fabulous. Part of me wonders if that blog is itself satire, since it is so over the top. But the other part of me knows that it is not.

BTW, I hate trunk or treat. I've never been to one and I totally see the appeal, but as a person whose childhood memories include charting out the different neighborhoods on a map and strategically planning my trick-or-treat route for maximum candy reception, trunk or treating seems like it takes out all the fun.

Now that I think about it, though, if the trunk or treat is done on a different day than Halloween itself, then I'm all for it, as that would give two days of candy reception! My 10-year-old self is thrilled at the idea.

THIS IS THE BEST lolololol but I am kind of sad that some people think Halloween is purely Satanic. It's been mingled with Christianity for years!

Yeah... yeah...

I didn't like trunk or treating, either. Then again, in my Texas ward there was a pretty real divide between families who let their children trick or treat (me and all my friends) and those who only let their children trunk or treat (more strict folks).

Whistler, yeah, I definitely agree. But they are probably people who don't like any of the holidays that are mixed with Pagan stuff, so hopefully they're consistent. ;) But yeah, even so, "of the devil" is pretty extreme, IMO.

That is awesome, congrats mic0!
My favorite line of that blog:
People of God, Halloween is not to be taken lightly. It’s a celebration of demons and when you do trick or treating, trunk or treating, or in any way pass out treats to kids, you are making the witches and warlocks power even stronger for their satanic festival

I saw this question and my first thought was "Gullible people are why we can't have nice things"
