While subbing for high school geometry today, I had the following bizarre experiences:
1. A boy started to take off his shirt to show another boy his nipple ring.
2. Another boy, upon figuring out the answer to a tricky problem, exclaimed, "Boom! Yeah! God is good!!"
3. A 16-year-old freshman told me that she didn't like to read, because she's ADD and bipolar, but she likes when her fiance reads to her.
4. A kid came in after lunch clearly stoned.
5. A girl recounted a rambly story about the time some other girl stole her cousin's wallet and her mom made her go beat the other girl up.

I fail so badly at focusing on preparing for my last finals right now... (See also: I forgot about the laundry that I started around noon and didn't get it into the dryer until well after midnight, therefore I can't focus on sleeping either.)

Talking clothing preference in the other thread made me laugh. My preference from childhood is zookeeper chic. You know, khaki and olive green. I don't wear it often, but when I do and look in the mirror, it just looks right to me.

Oh, and I just watched "We Bought a Zoo," and I thought Scarlett J. looked almost like someone I'd want to be friends with, in her zookeeper gear. It's a big change from anything and everything skintight and low cut!

Heh, I'm totally done with finals, and have been since Tuesday. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from one professor on a paper and another professor on my final project, so....

I hate "Baby It's Cold Outside." The creepy date rape subtext does not belong in a holiday song.

I was just saying the same thing to my sister last night. I like the Voice Male version better, it replaces some of the sketchier lines with more Mormon appropriate lyrics.

I like the song. I always read it as the girl knowing she should go home, listing off all her reasons, but really, she wants to stay, and the guy's trying to talk her into it. I've been on both sides of similar conversations. "I really should go to class!" "Mmm, but it's more fun here." "My grades will suffer." But there's chocolate and Community here." "But I've already missed twice!" "You might get hit by a car on the way to class! It's safer here." "Well it IS cold outside, and I hate snow and ice. I'll go next time." The drink might just as well be especially potent or delicious, and she wants the recipe. So there. Oh, and the fact that she wants his comb leads me to believe she was just kissing him, but wants to preserve appearances, which fits in with the rest--her reasons for going are mostly that her busybody family and neighbors will be scandalized, not that she doesn't want to stick around.

The one I find actually creepy is "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus." Because why is this kid glad that his mom's cheating on his dad with a guy whose job is to reward goodness?

But the guy is totally trying to manipulate her into sleeping with him, and the song heavily implies that he's put something in her drink. It's CREEPY.

Uh, sorry, I edited to talk about that more. I think she wanted to sleep with him just as much, and her feeble naysaying was her trying to manipulate him into convincing her.

Another edit: my opinion may be strongly influenced by the only version of the song I like, where she sounds super reluctant about going away from the start.

Meh, I don't think that in your scenario, I'd randomly ask for the drink recipe in the middle of the argument. I do think I might suddenly notice, hey, this tastes weird...

The She & Him version has Zooey Deschanel as The Wolf and Matt Ward as The Lamb. Being much more often in the position of seductress, I approve this change. (Although the best holiday song is clearly "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?")

This argument only works from a teetotaler perspective. Basically the way to read the line is "this alcohol is affecting me quickly!" But women use that line all the time flirtatiously.

Yes. And if this blog post is to be believed, it was especially common in that time period.
“Say, what’s in this drink” is a well-used phrase that was common in movies of the time period and isn’t really used in the same manner any longer. The phrase generally referred to someone saying or doing something they thought they wouldn’t in normal circumstances; it’s a nod to the idea that alcohol is “making” them do something unusual. But the joke is almost always that there is nothing in the drink. The drink is the excuse. The drink is the shield someone gets to hold up in front of them to protect from criticism.

I always read it as a reference to Quaaludes. Given Roman Polanski, I don't think that will end well...

Well, seeing as the song was written in 1944, and Methaqualone (the drug of which Quaaludes is the brand name) was first synthesized in 1951, that seems unlikely.

I approached Tangerine in a library today. She was nonplussed.
