bucket list

Was reading old answers and was pleasantly surprised at how many of these I've scratched off in the past five years. Polished off Austen, have been in two musicals, rocked the Twilight Concert Series & Red Butte Gardens, my German's improving, I lived in a temperate state, I taught kids folk dances, midnight mass was beautiful, and despite my occasional grumblings, there have been albums more than worthy of a listen. Awesome!

A lot of the Big Things have yet to happen, but I hope to look back at 30 and say to myself, "wow, you did graduate and go to Scotland and decorate your home and practice the piano. See, things happen!" Only one - a mission - is not happening, and a couple are either terrifying (driving! ugh) or financially complicated (graduate school) or both, but it's nice to see that I was fulfilling goals by living life, there, and didn't even realize it. I'd forgotten about it entirely.

Yes.. Yes she did. However, I had just read that question (the bucket list one) like a week or two ago, so I knew what she was talking about and so I didn't bother to click the link.

Did you get a peacoat? Getting a legit peacoat is on my bucket list, too, but I don't know anything about them except I think they are very stylish.

Yes! Yes I did. Having lost quite a bit of weight, next winter, I want to invest in one that is a bold color, like amethyst, in a smaller size.

Portia, is your icon of "How to Steal a Million"?
Mic0, how often does the board have parties? Once a semester? Twice? Is it boardies only? I remember reading a question about someone bringing their girlfriend to a board party. How does that work? What are the rules for parties regarding anonymity?

Incorrect. Right woman though.

There are writers-only parties, and reader parties. You can always host one. It seems to me that Marduk & bob are the go-to hosts for reader parties.

So what are the unspoken rules for writer parties? Do you have to figure out who is who? Or do you go around in a circle and introduce yourself?

Well, a lot of us are friends with each other on Facebook, so we at least sort of know what the others look like. And a lot of us are also friends in real life, so we've met on occasion outside of Board parties. At the last Board party, I'd already met four of the six other writers who were there, and one of the two that I hadn't met was the host.

I believe we did all introduce ourselves, though.

It went a lot like this:

"Hello. My name is yayfulness, and I'm a board writer."

Either that or

"Hello. My name is *redacted* and I'm anonymous."

So do you always plan the parties around questions? i.e. bacon ice cream, hat parties....

I can answer for the bacon ice cream. The question and the party were totally separate, but it seemed like a fun idea to let the other writers in on my experiment since they happened at around the same time. And I was very right. Watching other people's horrified reactions was the only good part of that experience.

With the hat one, I saw it and had two immediate thoughts.

1. "What? This question is kind of ridiculous."

2. "OH MY GOODNESS I WANT TO DO A SILLY HAT PARTY!"

If we get another terrible below-20-degrees week, I'm getting my boyfriend to take me down to his homestate on a self-declared spring break. We'll try out geohashing.
