Messaging from a few feet away? For shame!

I bought you Ice cream. I'm allowed to message you from a few feet away.

Do elaborate.Giovanni Schwartz wrote:Also, that made me think of a Chinese grammar principle that most missionaries never really understood.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Well, in English, we can basically drop the preposition "Buy me ice cream." "Give me a drink." In Chinese, you can't do that. It sounds like you're saying "Buy me. Ice cream." You have to say "Help me buy ice cream." Because then it is accurate to make the pronoun the object of a verb;
I hope that made sense.

Ah, because the "me" in "buy me ice cream" is actually an indirect object, even though it is identical in form and placement to a direct object? Interesting.Giovanni Schwartz wrote:Well, in English, we can basically drop the preposition "Buy me ice cream." "Give me a drink." In Chinese, you can't do that. It sounds like you're saying "Buy me. Our office has conversation hearts on offer. I hate them but still got some. (I bet if I eat one I'll figure out they're not that bad and I'll eat more.)
I do like looking at the sayings on them. The selection I got (one of each color) are a good mix:
BFF
YOU ROCK
URS 4EVR
SUP BABE
SWEET PEA
BE MINE
It reminds me of the time a couple years ago when I put together a candy bag for my to-be Valentine and read each of the sayings to make sure I wasn't accidentally propositioning him (this was pre-kiss and I wasn't sure I wanted to encourage him). But, like, do people even read them?
(And then he dumped me and I got to keep the candy bag and I ate all of the carefully selected conversation hearts myself.)

I know that a lot of people say the white ones taste like toothpaste, but they're my favorite flavor. Followed by green and yellow.
And I hate the pink ones.

When I look at all the pictures in this news story, #3 in particular, I wonder if I have anywhere near an idea what a horrendous smog problem China (and Beijing in particular) has. For the link-wary, that news story is literally supposing they need clean air in a can. Makes me think of the movie Space Balls. If only it were funny...

So the first text I get today is from El Corazon Solo, who's madly in love with this girl with a missionary (not me, another one), saying "So we accidentally kissed last night." Um, you accidentally kissed?
I'm quite amused right now.

Hee. We love Jeopardy in my house. I especially love teen Jeopardy, because I know a higher percentage of the answers.

I haven't seen that Superbowl commercial with the nerd kissing the beautiful woman, but now I know who Bar Rafaeli is. What a beautiful woman, and lucky nerd.

Dang. How can that many people pack in that close without crashing into each other? I'm sure it spreads out a little when you're not at a light, but that's still some crazy density...Giovanni Schwartz wrote:I took this picture. See the floating top half of the building in the distance? Yeah.
