Love You Like a Love Song - #71079

Post by C is for »

So, this question that I happened to ask on Valentine's Day.

I actually have my own answer. Wish I hadn't forgotten about the question so I could think of a couple more, since right now I have two songs and they're both embarrassingly from the same band. They're even both practically the same subject.

First: Strange and Beautiful by Aqualung. Every time I'm just desperate for him to notice me, when I'm making hopeless plans to get his attention, when I wish I could cast a spell and make it happen...this song comes to mind.

Also: Fingertip by Aqualung. When I'm pretty sure I'm wearing him down, any day now he'll ask me out, any minute he'll fall for me, I just need to keep manipulating the situations in my favor, keep shaking that tree he's trying to hide in. Any minute now.

There are a lot more songs that I listen to and remember how I was feeling when listening to that song in the past (so, songs I associate with being in love), but the lyrics don't reflect how I actually felt, so they don't count. Neither do songs where I listen to the lyrics and really want to feel that way sometime.

Anyone else? It's okay if you don't.

I like "Every Breath You Take" by Sting and "The Stalking Song" by InsideOut.

Franz Ferdinand's Darts of Pleasure - "words are poison darts of pleasure" In my dating days sometimes I felt or liked pretending that I could manipulate other people's feelings while remaining an objective heartless person? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wznMbAkyBHQ

same band, Bite Hard: "you don't know the pseudonyms I assume for you" -- conveys internet creepiness, feelings after a breakup, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Wla1JE ... D56CE4874B

also the movie Rushmore http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCKKSeNW ... sults_main

I have a lot of songs that I associate with being in love, but they don't really describe how I feel in the moment. Right before my husband proposed, he had some music playing in the background and I kept wanting to talk. Finally he had to ask if I would listen to the song he was playing because the words were important to him and described how he felt. Which was very sweet (although I was a little embarrassed to have ignored it)

I have songs that go with other parts of my life, though. The SuperWhy theme song, Gotta Get Through This, and this Bare Naked Ladies song that played in my head while reading all the verbal fisticuffs on that other thread.

I just remembered one.

Enchanted ~ Taylor Swift

Anyone who can't relate to at least one Taylor Swift song is doing love wrong.

I thought I'd add one of my favorites, the story of silly summer love (EFY anyone?)

Hot Summer Nights - The Aquabats

I can't relate to any Taylor Swift songs. I can, however, relate to most James Taylor songs, like "You've got a Friend" and "Your smiling face." I also (as I have mentioned before) love most things by Bread, "Daisy Jane" by America, and lots of stuff in Spanish that I'll list if you guys want.

I also really like "A Case of You" by Joni Mitchell, but especially Tori Amos' cover of it. I like "Push" by Sarah Mclachlan, who is not known for writing love songs (at least, not "requited love.")

I also should probably be embarrassed, but I really like "Africa" by Toto.
