Religion and Politics

I'm not saying they should necessarily be brought up in a first date, but I think they should be mentioned at some point--and probably fairly early in the relationship. Those kind of beliefs *can* make or break a relationship, or at the very least, be a contributing factor. I can tolerate beliefs that are very different than mine, but I don't think I could live with it...

I'm so glad religion and politics didn't come up on my first date with Marduk, or for several dates thereafter. We were in such different places when we first started dating. Of course, he would have been understanding (especially because my main state of being was confusion rather than any sort of firm conviction), but his opinions and beliefs would have startled me a little.

But if Marduk were to dump me now that I have OPINIONS I would probably would bring up politics and/or religion on all the first dates and scare everyone away. : )
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

I try to avoid those topics because I have opinions. Most of them are too pinko for conservatives, yet modern liberalism just doesn't sit right with me.

But it's something you'd need to bring up in a relationship eventually, right? So when would you do it?

When it comes up. I don't see the need to bring it up intentionally, but if it somehow came up I'd be happy to talk about My Opinions. Usually, however, I try to avoid bringing them up in polite conversation.
