First Concert?

Post by Talons »

I enjoyed hearing about first concert experiences, anyone else want to chime in?

Mine was also The Aquabats. It was 2001 (I think), which was my sophomore year in high school at "In the Venue" (Bricks back then). I remember when The Aquabats came on stage everyone rushed towards the front, squishing me into the people in front of me, which was a serious invasion of my bubble. And then what was I supposed to do with my jacket? It collected a large amount of stranger sweat. It was so loud that when the people behind me whistled I felt like I was going to fall over. Afterwards, I bought some reversible Aquabat goggles. It was awesome.

I think it was in 2008 when I saw Muse live. They were awesome. I didn't realize that encores are customary for rock concerts though, and missed them.

I went to lots of shows with my dad when I was younger - Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Rolling Stones, stuff like that. Iron Butterfly is the most memorable of these.

My dad took me to a Counting Crows concert, which would be my first contemporary concert experience (although I have vague recollections of a Rusted Root show, too - perhaps they were the opening act?). He took me to see Barenaked Ladies at some point - I remember them being absolutely phenomenal.

The first concert I went to 'alone' (my dad still dropped me off and picked me up) [besides Blue Oyster Cult, which I saw during a vacation in California when my dad took my siblings to something boring I didn't want to go to and he looked up other things for me to do instead] was Soul Coughing / Everclear. Google tells me this was in Feb. 1999. I loved both groups and was very excited to see them in concert. The show was alright, but my seat was fairly far away - I would have liked to have been on the floor. The X96 Big-Ass Show that same year, headlined by Ben Folds Five and Primus, was my first experience with a larger festival type concert and I loved it.

Later that year, I saw my first and only Britney Spears concert at the Utah State Fair. That was interesting too.

Umm...so...Cheri Magill performed at a YW regional conference when I was 12...and that's the only concert experience I've had.

Mine was Jack's Mannequin like two other writers. Also, I have to say The Hush Sound has been one of my favorite concerts I've ever been to.

My first concert was Sarah Mclachlan. With my brother. Pretty sure we were the only two straight guys there that weren't with dates.
