(Retired) Writers' Claims to Fame (#71957)
So, after reading question 71957, I may or may not have gotten excited about learning possibly-identifying information about one of my favorite retired writers...and I may have spent the last 20 minutes trying to stalk said writer online, to no avail.
Oh, you are tricky, Certain Writer. Also, I now feel uncharacteristically like a creepy stalker weirdo.

Nah. I'm a creepy stalker weirdo. In fact I'm about to send a Facebook message to a guy who was in my ward a year ago and ask him if he still drives the same car, because I just noticed I still check every car that looks like that to see if it's the same license plate number -- and I don't even remember what his license plate number was!
Also it's really fun to stalk writers, as long as you're socially responsible.

20,000+ StackOverflow points is really impressive. Most of the questions I see when I peruse that site are already advanced questions, as a large portion of the community already knows how to program. Of course there are low-level questions, but those already usually have 20+ answers by the time I ever see them (I'm not a regular; I look at that site whenever I have a question).

Oof. This gives me the jibblies. If you guys ever want my real name, just ask.

But it's so much more fun to figure it out. I like solving puzzles. I've figured out the names of about ten current and retired writers...meeting a few of them helped.UffishThought wrote:Oof. This gives me the jibblies. If you guys ever want my real name, just ask.

I once found you by accident. I was like "Oh hey, that's totally Uffish."UffishThought wrote:Oof. This gives me the jibblies. If you guys ever want my real name, just ask.
But then I needed to be your friend and I didn't remember so I just asked.
I'm not morally opposed to stalking. I'm just lazy.

I've put two and two together before, too--I think I saw you comment on a friend of mine's wall and figured you out, as well. And I'm sure I've done some stalking, too.
It's just: when I do something cool in real life, people might give me a high five or tell me that was neat, and that's usually that. Maybe they'll think I'm REALLY cool and invite me to do things with them so we can get to be real friends. But sometimes, if people like a board writer, they start rifling through everything they've ever done or said to look for personal information, and if they get it, then they can look even more in depth for personal information they didn't mean to share with strangers. The first is flattering, the second makes you feel hunted in a rather unpleasant way.

I actually like it when readers try to figure out who I am, but only if I know beforehand (mostly so I can taunt them with really vague clues). If they're stalking me and I know it, it's a game. If they're stalking me and I don't know it, it's a little bit creepy.

I will say that I used to be a super stalker.
Nowadays, I just tell people "Oh hey, my name is ______ ______. We should be facebook friends."

I too know the fun of stalking... I think the way I got my application was when I messaged Pa Grape on Facebook with the answer to someone's "how to approach a board writer in the wild" question. But nowadays I'm more concerned with not being creepy I guess? Also, stalking is a lot of word, ain't no one got time for that.
