Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
I hate guillemets.

In more adventures in writing in French, machine translation has gotten surprisingly good, but still stumbles on the concept of "single," mistranslating it as the "only child" or "alone" sense.

So $30 for about 3 hours in the plasma center is pretty great.
$30 for the 3 hours in the center plus the 4-5 hours afterword that I can't use my arm to work... not such a great deal.

The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

On one hand, I can't do math/physics very well at all, despite hours of studying.
On the other hand, I'm definitely in the right major.

How do you feel about history? (CPM and I both think math is easier than history, because it's logical, but he thinks foreign languages are also too illogical, while I don't mind their quirks.)Tally M. wrote:On one hand, I can't do math/physics very well at all, despite hours of studying.

I don't mind history. I just don't think I'd want to study it full time =P

As a soon-to-be history grad, I have to say that history is much easier than math because there's no right answer. That means it's more like life. It helps you to look at all the facts you can gather, judge how accurate they are, figure out which facts you are missing, make an educated guess, and defend your proposition. Plus, you get to learn and practice those skills while learning about super cool things that happened in the past!

About Santa Anna!
He was president of Mexico 11 times. And when he lost his leg in a war he had it buried with honor. Then he got this prosthetic leg, but some American troops carried it off during a different war. And it's still in a museum in the US! A prosthetic leg! Stolen from the president of Mexico.
You can't learn that in Math.
Incidentally, that's one of only a handful of stories I can remember from my history degree. But I did finish it 9 years ago...

Someone take me to Seattle so I can see Rembrandt. Thanks.

I jammed my ring finger playing basketball earlier. Thank goodness I'd remembered to take my engagement ring off before we played, cause now my finger is too swollen for it to fit over the knuckle, which makes me feel slightly naked but at least it's better than the ring being stuck and the finger swelling around it.
Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
Also, if you're a high school student taking astronomy only because you think it'll be an easy last science credit, you shouldn't answer a question, "Because volume is proportional to cube of a length, the factor by which the universe would have to increase in size is s = (2.8 million times)^1/3=140 times. That means that the Milky and the Andromeda galaxy would have been at a distance of 2.2 million light years/140 = 16,000 light years." Because if you do, I'm going to know you found the answer key to the worksheet online, and then you're going to get a zero on the assignment.

Fact: anxiety makes it difficult to finish work, which only leads to more anxiety and there's no good way to end this cycle because caffeine to keep me awake to finish work fuels anxiety reactions, but the anti-anxiety drugs I have make me crash hard. Also, I've already tried yoga and my usual anxiety reducing practices.
Basically, I just want tomorrow to be over, despite the fact I'm not ready for it.

*hugs* That is a seriously un-fun cycle to be in.Violet wrote:Fact: anxiety makes it difficult to finish work, which only leads to more anxiety and there's no good way to end this cycle because caffeine to keep me awake to finish work fuels anxiety reactions, but the anti-anxiety drugs I have make me crash hard. It bugs me that when I have a strong opinion on something, some (dumb) people make comments about how it must be hormonal, or PMS or whatever. I should probably just shake my head and walk away, but I usually don't.

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
You cute little woman, thinking you can have opinions! Everyone knows only men can have those.

Thanks, all. I managed to finish everything I needed to.
Also, I hear you there thatonemom.

If a woman doesn't speak up, no one pays attention.thatonemom wrote:It bugs me that when I have a strong opinion on something, some (dumb) people make comments about how it must be hormonal, or PMS or whatever. I should probably just shake my head and walk away, but I usually don't.
If a woman speaks dispassionately, people assume she doesn't really care or tell her she's being too masculine.
If a woman speaks passionately or emotionally, people blame her response on hormones.
It sucks.
