Oddest Compliment

Post by essgame »

When I was in high school some Jewish twins in their senior year (that's all I knew about them) told me I looked like a character from a book. I was too shy to say, "What book?"

I will never know. I was flattered, though, being literary.

Haha, that's great.

"You look older without your bathrobe on" is just about the most awkward thing anyone's ever said to me, and I think it was intended as a compliment?

Someone once told me they liked my nail beds. That was pretty weird.

As someone who's had her nail beds insulted, I wouldn't mind that compliment.

An old lady at my aunt's wedding said I was so brave to be wearing light blue nail polish (to match my bride's maid dress). I didn't wear blue nail polish again for a good 8 years because I couldn't decide if that was actually a compliment, or an attempt to tell me it looked terrible.

I've complimented a lot of people on their eyebrows, and how awesome their wrinkles are when they furrow or raise their eyebrows, or when they smile and get awesome crows feet. I'm a fan of crows feet.

One time I posted a picture on facebook and some of my friends had a whole conversation about how I looked like I had "fey ancestry", and someone once told me I looked like Peter Pan or maybe Link and I took that as a compliment.

And today, a girl at church touched my arm, the stroked it and told me how soft I am. That was weird. But really nice to hear. :)

I didn't give the compliment, and I didn't receive it, but this topic reminded me of a line in a Bollywood movie. "You have the best bum in the world!" ("I Hate Luv Storys" July 27, 2013 http://rosiesmovielist.blogspot.com/ )

I was once told I was an odd mix of an 8 year old and an 80 year old. Oh, and that I have cute eyebrows (they're completely invisible, they're so blonde).

Also, Vorpal, I don't know who this Rosie woman is, but she hates one of my very favorite Bollywoods. I don't think I can trust her. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi forever!

Well, that's one of my favorite Bollywood movies also. I love the last dance number.

I think she makes some good points. And, as you know, she really didn't say that she hated the movie. "I ended up not really disliking this film, but not really liking it either."

I do know Rosie. She is one of my favorite persons. I'll email her with your response and see what she says.

I posted a Facebook status comparing Epic to Doctor Who and my mom commented, "That is so you."

Definitely took that as a compliment

The oddest compliment I remember receiving was that I looked like the south end of a north bound deer. This was said by a deer lover (or at least a deer hunter) on the opening of deer hunting season in the hills near Neola, Utah. It was told to my wife, explaining what I looked like in his rifle gun sights, and why he was about to pull the trigger.

Rosie's response.
Rosie wrote:Yeah, I think I'm the only person I know who's seen it and not loved it. So it must just be me. I'm glad you stopped by and looked around -- I always love to hear from other Bollywood fans! (And I love your screen name, by the way.)

I get told my boobs are really soft and comfy a lot. That's what I get for having such short friends.
