I would be interested in hearing more speculation on when/if BYU might change the Honor Code in regards to facial hair. I like speculation. Also I have Opinions.

False. As in factually. Depending on face shape and a couple of other factors, some men do actually look better with facial hair/long hair than when conforming to society's standards. Take my Marduk, for example; his face is round and full, so if it's up to me (and I do seem to have some say in it), he will never shave or cut his hair again. He looks so much better with his current beard, mustache, and past-shoulder-length hair, which he keeps well-maintained and clean. (Seriously though his hair is so gorgeous I want it.)

Society has allowed for some women to look much better with short hair. Let's not be sexist and deny men the chance to have long hair!

I have no intention of cutting my hair until BYU forces me to. Which will probably be soon, but whatever. This seems slightly relevant.

What's hilar is that it's not even "society's" standards. Society circa the Kennedy administration? Yep. Today's society? Brigham Young's society? Nope.

Mustaches are pervy, not "conservative," and everyone who wasn't in their 20s in the 1970s knows it. (Sorry Jeremy of Studio C. But I suspect you grow it BECAUSE it is pervy.)

And trimmed facial hair is seen plenty in business circles. BYU seems to want to legislate preppiness, so Marduk's 1995-style look will probably not happen. (Just like girls can't have "extreme" hair colors, although that has nothing to do with worthiness.)

2-day stubble is the hottest, naturally. I saw it a lot more during round 2 of BYU than round 1.

I second what bob said. And I'd like to add that I know some men who look like children when they shave off their facial hair and (I know it's terrible of me) I had a difficult time taking them seriously until they grew it back. Some guys need the facial hair so they don't look like they're 15 when they're 40. Some guys can't grow good facial hair so they deserve a gold star for effort and a razor to get rid o' that patchy mess. Also, I freakin' love my short hair and I think it looks quite good on me, thank you.

That being said, I don't think BYU will be changing their standards any time soon because part of the BYU culture is that they're "different from other schools". Maybe it would change sooner if we got some facial hair bearing members into general authority positions...
