I wish he'd just get the rights to the series figured out so he can just writing the stinkin' 5th book already!

What's the issue with the rights?

From what I understand, Scholastic only bought the rights for books 1-4. But there's something about transferring rights back to him? Or something? Maybe I should go look and see what he said again...

This is what he said in 2011:

Book 5, I’m going to wait and see what happens with the movie deal. By the way, DreamWorks did not renew their option, so it’s back on the market. We’ll see what happens. I also want to see what happens with Scholastic. They so far have not asked for a fifth book. If there is no activity by about this time next year, I will look into writing the fifth book and either just releasing an ebook or selling it to Tor or something like that. The fifth book will come.

I swear I heard something about him deciding not to go with Scholastic (maybe they didn't ask for the 5th book) and that he was looking at other publishers. But I swear there was something about having to wait until the rights were officially released to him or something... I don't know. Maybe I'm making up crap and spreading rumors. Don't listen to me. I can't find anything to back myself up. :)

Saw Laggies with The Boyfriend and Violet. I'm pretty sure Keira Knightley's character is either a sociopath or has borderline disorder, or both. So there's that. I liked it, it was amusing (and set in Seattle!), but it was also pretty implausible, even by Quirky Sundance Standards.

I'm listening to Eleanor and Park right now (like literally, right at this moment).

Any Way of Kings fans out there? Tor.com has published the prologue and first 5 chapters of The Words of Radiance on their webpage. And holy cow. So much to process in only 6 chapters! THIS WORLD IS SO BIG AND DETAILED AND WE KNOW SO LITTLE! I love these books.

I'm rereading the first one right now, to anticipate the next one coming out.

Surprising, and kind of sad. Famous people who have killed people include Matthew Broderick and Laura Bush.

I took advantage of the day off to go see Her in the theater. I don't think I've ever been in the middle of a film with so little idea of how it was going to end.

Saw La Traviata. The opera/the play it's based on (by Dumas, fils) inspired Moulin Rouge!, among other works. Similar to the La Bohème/RENT connection.

A classmate from my opera class is in that! I heard it was pretty good, but that the tenor was having some issues. How was he on your night?
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

That's cool. I thought the costumes were phenomenal, that Violetta was exceptionally good, and that the other cast members were solid. Don't remember his singing standing out to me as either strong or weak. I really liked the storyline (I found the themes of hypocrisy, sacrifice, and sexual double standards to be very engrossing), although I wish it had started earlier so I wasn't running to catch a bus.

Verdi, the composer, was an atheist, which to me is a pretty good data point against the straw man argument that you need religion to be a good person or contribute profoundly to society.
