Um, does the weepy-on-one's-period get worse as one gets older, or what?

if there is one thing I have learned from pregnancy/childbirth, it is that sometimes I am at the mercy of my hormones and often there is very little I can do to control them. But if I can accept that sometimes I will be stupidly weepy sometimes, then I feel less bad. Sorry, that doesn't answer your question.

Do you think that what's expected in terms of "control" varies depending on the circumstance? (Work, school, church, family ....) If I lose it at a religious service or in the privacy of my bedroom it's a lot less embarrassing than, say, at my office job.

oh, definitely. I felt/feel really embarrassed when I cry in front of other people. At least with the pregnancy, there was something I could point to to explain my behavior. With PMS or other hormonal variations it gets harder, because in my opinion, I don't want people to think I'm emotional fragile in general (although maybe I am?).

Concorde was a sophomore in college in 2009? I graduated from college in 08. Man, I feel so old.

I found out today that my full-time position working with the little kids at the substance abuse agency where I've worked forever will likely go part-time as of August 15. There's no way I'm sticking around for the same hard job with no benefits and fewer hours, no matter how great the job is (and I'm overqualified anyway), so I guess it's time to look for jobs. I swear, this had better be the last major upheaval in my life for a while.

I kind of want to step out of social work for a while. Is that sacrilege? I don't even really know what else I'd do.

You and I both, sister. And I have worked with adolescents and adults as well, but my entire work history is in some type of social work.

No, it is definitely not sacrilege! Social work is hard emotional work, and it's better to take a break (temporarily or permanently) when you need one than to have social work agencies full of burned out people.

Random fact about me: If there is a movie or TV show that has actors in it who are married in real life, and then they later divorce, I have a hard time rewatching that movie / those episodes. (Examples: Arrested Development episodes with Amy Poehler, the Parks and Recreation episode with Will Arnett, Much Ado About Nothing with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, etc.)

I realized that I kissed four guys in the last month and that all four said they'd come see me perform in my show. ! One I'm certain will come, one I'm certain won't, one is unlikely, and one is likely. I feel like there's already heightened emotions it being theatah and all. I don't know if kissing any of them is a great idea but what if the power of '80s ballads is just too much?!

Oh, I was sitting here thinking, "Are Concorde and I the same age?" Because I really didn't think so. This makes more sense.

I know personal blogs are super out of vogue, but I'm beginning to write again: http://anewvoiceslowlyrecognized.wordpress.com/

I don't care if anyone reads it, truly, but the fact that it's public helps the cause somehow and keeps me honest. It only doesn't have my name attached to it because I have clients who started googling me a few years ago.

It's meant to be an honest account, so that means there will probably be swearing/shenanigans. Ye be warned.

The poem you quoted is one of my favorites!
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
