I was in a bus terminal in eastern Venezuela when a friend called me up and told me that the U.S. Embassy had issued a warning to all American citizens regarding the attack. Even in those days a lot of Venezuelans didn't like Americans, so there was some partying in the streets.

On a more humorous note, when my Texan friend heard that America had been attacked, the first words out of his mouth were: "Did they get Texas yet?" :-)

(If this conversation goes any further, it's going to need a split. Any help, admins?)

Yes, I finally got back on. Now I will lecture you.

Technically, that poem isn't a haiku at all. It's something more like a Senryu. Senryu are about people, places, feelings and stuff like that. Haiku are about nature. By the way, the plural word for haiku is haiku. It's a Japanese word so s is never on the end of words. :P

You're punny... I still think my haiku is the coolest one I've ever seen. (I didn't write it. A kid I know told it to me.) Is that senryu thing with 5-7-5 syllables as well?

More or less. A senryū has three lines and 17 or less on, which is like the syllables that are counted in some Japanese poetry. I'm a little fuzzy on how the onji work, and I know that some English syllables can have more than one on, but they're roughly equivalent. Or at least, so I am told.

I don't really know much about Senryu. Somebody on a poetry website said something about me writing a senryu instead of a haiku... that's how I found out about it.

And mine is waaaay better. I still remember the first haiku I ever wrote.

Jump leap and glide merrily
Dancing with the leaves

I think that still doesn't qualify as a haiku because it doesn't have a seasonal word in it.

All these rules remind me why I stick to prose.

But who really cares about the 'rules' of haiku? I only said stuff about it because Bob promised I would.

For some reason, the phrase "Message Center" always looks like "Massage Center" to me on first glance. This can be rather startling depending on the context.

...and I missed a party over here too. Dang. Who gave you guys permission to have fun without me? Hmm?

So, the Women's Conference concert was amazing, if anyone cares. And a woman went into labor during the final song. And someone got stuck in the elevator for half an hour. And my feet really hurt.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

What were they doing in the elevator to cause it to be stuck?

As for the woman in labor, just imagine the stories, "Son, you were born after President Monson gave an amazing talk..." Or something along those lines. Sorry about your feet though.

I didn't know that the women's conference started yesterday, and I was just starting to get used to the Helaman parking lot being empty, and then all of a sudden there were a ton of cars there! I was sad.
