This question is over a week old, but I wanted to say that I really liked this response and attitude.
I rarely upvote responses, but I wanted to vote this one multiple times somehow.

I think this is my favorite ever version of "it's better in Canada." (Also, Zed, some day you need to visit Maine, because I had poutine last week and there's a Tim Horton's just down the street. But I cannot speak to the sourness of our sour patch kids.)

I'm not linking my Seal of Approval because I think twice in one day might be overkill, but consider it implied.

That reminds me of studies that have been done regarding color and sweetness perception. Turns out they usually conclude that we perceive things as sweeter when they are red, even when they are of equal sweetness.

Seriously, I bought sour patch kids down here a couple times, and I ended up giving them to M every time because they were so disappointing.

The first time I threw out candy from here:

"Why did you throw it out?"
"It was cheap American candy, it was gross!"
"Hello! Cheap American boyfriend!"

I liked all the answers on what it's like to be a writer, but I liked Art's best. Also, I don't think there ever was a time the Board met weekly. Some of us were just good friends outside of the Board. And there were parties every few months.

Also, rock climbing yayyyyyy!

I think Pa Grape used to hold (monthly?) meetings that were really intense and not very fun for any of the writers.

I don't remember those being as frequent as monthly, though.

Like the kind where everyone had to clear out all the over-hours questions? Those gatherings sound not very fun (o:

(In reality, I have no idea who did those gatherings and they actually did sound fun.)

I wish WE would have gatherings to clear out overdue questions. They hurt my soul.

Did you sign them with your usual nym? Because we definitely don't have anything that old in the inbox from you. Maybe ask the editors if your question got lost.

You need to hold the party, that's how it happens. Someone just decides "OK FINE! I'll do it!" Provide some music and snacks and a wifi connection and you're good. :) It is fun to answer questions together and to have other people around for input for your answers.

The Pa Grape meetings were more pep talks along the lines of "guys, answer your 8 questions a week already, and do a good job with it." I sympathize more now that I've been the editor in charge of hiring and firing, but as a brand-new and very timid writer, those meetings scared me.

The "clean out the inbox" gatherings started much later. I didn't have a laptop then, so I wasn't very involved whenever those happened.
