Halloween Costumes
How about you lot? What are/were you for Halloween?
I've gotta say, so far I'm disappointed in my hometown. Out of the 10 or so students I've seen today, only one had something that could remotely be construed costume-y. I feel perhaps slightly out of place because I am unashamedly Halloween-y (in my imitable, support assistant way) but I also look lovely (again in my imitable support assistant way) so it's everyone else that loses.

Re: Halloween Costumes
I was a … Mexican? (sombrero and … whatever those blankets you put over your head are called) for a Halloween party the other night. Basically my sis-in-law insisted we dress up and went through their billion boxes of costumes and gave them to me while I called T-Mobile to see why my text messaging hated me. I didn't really care, so I just put it on. We joked about how being a Mexican for Halloween was pretty tactless and a horrible costume. And then I spent the evening sitting across a fire from a Mexican dressed up as a vampire. I felt pretty self-conscious for a little bit. Except he was super nice.
Today I doubt I'll dress up as anything. I'm just not much of a costume person. Dragon Baby, on the other hand, is going as a cowgirl. Pink "horse boots", jeggings, flannel shirt (she has 3, so now I've got to decide which one), and a pink cowgirl hat. After her nap we'll go to Yellow's work for her first trick-or-treating experience (we practiced this morning with Yellow in the pantry giving her animal crackers every time she said "trick or treat." She loved it.) and then this evening Yellow's sister is dressing up like an Indian to take our little cowgirl out trick-or-treating. Yellow and I will probably stay here with his parents playing a game on a card table set up near the front door. At least, that's what we did last year.

I was a Truthless of Shinovar at the Ward Halloween Party. Needless to say, no one got it .
Also, Gimgimno, my roommate is dressed as Willy Wonka and I'm pretty sure it didn't cost her $200. I'm not sure where she got everything, but I can ask if you want.

Re: Halloween Costumes
I am again not dressed up. This year I won't even throw on garb to answer the door, because I MOVED OUT OF MY PARENTS' HOUSE WOO and will therefore not have to fulfill door duties.
Someday, someday, I will have a party or something to go to and will have an opportunity to dress up as Sally. I've been meaning to be her for three years now.

The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.
Re: Halloween Costumes
For our ward Halloween party on Saturday night, my husband dressed up as Flint Lockwood and I dressed up as Sam Sparks. It was super easy to put together except that it was ridiculously hard to find a place that sold lab coats in the Provo area.
Also, a word to the wise-- don't wait until 2 days before Halloween to go shopping for accessories at DI. I couldn't believe they were out of huge glasses and Scrunchies. And it was nuts in there.

My brother is Flynn Rider (Ryder? I don't care enough to find out) and two of my sisters are Rapunzel.

I just listened to Szeth's second interlude. Which, I just realized, sounds like a song. It is not.Dead Cat wrote:I was a Truthless of Shinovar at the Ward Halloween Party. Needless to say, no one got it .

@Rifka, I think they sell lab coats at the BYU Bookstore. Or, at least they used to. Not like it matters now.
I originally wanted to be Emperor Palpatine, but I couldn't memorize enough quotes (like, "It is your destiny"). Then I decided I wouldn't dress up, but we have a bunch of steampunk accessories so I threw some on this morning and left for school. People think I'm Amelia Earhart (which is great!) so I'm saying I'm steampunk Amelia Earhart.

Re: Halloween Costumes
My husband's boss does a pirate party every year, but my nice pirate costume I use for that wouldn't fit. So I had to figure out a pregnant pirate costume. But I don't think I'll wear that today.
My kids are Aurora and a One Man Band though. I think they are cute, so now you get subjected to pictures.
Needs more cowbell!

Re: Halloween Costumes
My kids are Yoda and a ladybug. Sauron was "the ghost of unused electronics" and I was the personification of Rainbow Road. We dressed up for the ward activity, and we probably will again tonight for trick-or-treating.
This is one of my favorite costumes I've ever had; I was covered with glow-in-the-dark stars, glowsticks, neon colors, star-shaped sunglasses, glitter, and weird eye jewels from the dollar store. It feels so liberating to be so tacky. Sauron hates glitter so much that he wouldn't kiss me. He also didn't kiss me the year I drew a beard on my face. Maybe I should try to wear an unkissable costume every year, because it's so funny to me.

Re: Halloween Costumes
@krebscout -- why does your FB not have pictures of your costumes? I totally want to see!
My sister told my parents and me that we would be uninvited to her Halloween party if we didn't dress up (the Halloween party where we were the only guests...). I already was wearing a dress from work and had a lab coat from touring the new wing of the U hospital on Friday and a fake wedding ring from days gone by, so I went as Dr. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd (pre-divorce, hence the ring). My dad threw on a white coat (that was 3 sizes too small) and was also a doctor, and my mom, also in a dress from work, tied a scarf around her head and was a gypsy. My sister did not appreciate our costumes.
My favorite part was when my mom asked why the front lights were on and if we were expecting someone. I laughed and reminded her that people do, in fact, still go trick-or-treating.

According to FB, one of my friends went as a nudist on strike--all you need for that one is a sign taped to your shirt. Easy, clever, and weird.
Also, I went trick or treating with my niece this year. She was the cutest Boo (from Monsters Inc.) you ever did see. I'm not sure how her mother feels about me posting pictures on a public forum, but if you're a Facebook friend or if you go to the party on Saturday, I'd be happy to play proud auntie.
