Hundred hour board persona #72950

Post by vorpal blade »

I thought this question was interesting. http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/72950/

I've wondered about that. I notice that six writers answered the question. Several of them seemed offended by the question. I thought that was interesting also.

Just to be clear, I think there is a great deal of variety among the writers. Every writer is a unique person.

I don't think the asker meant to offend. And I do think that the Board tends to attract people with certain traits, but that certainly doesn't mean that all writers and readers are anything like the same. I mean, we've discussed here on the bb before how many of us have depression and/or anxiety, and yet even all of us who share those struggles are very different people. The same goes for other common traits here and on the Board - intelligence, bookishness, insatiable curiosity, etc. etc. - no matter how many of us share those traits, each of us has interests that don't overlap with others. That's how being human works.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

Well said, Bob. I agree.

I think there's definitely a sort of person that editors select to be writers (past the self-selection criteria of applying). Not that they're consciously looking for a certain thing.

What has kept me interested in the board and this board as well is the variety of opinions, and the respect that all opinions usually receive.

Plus the fact that on the boards all the women are strong, all the men good looking, and all the children are above average.

Well I know I wasn't offended. I just really wanted an excuse to use the phrase "poops all over"
