dress for "success"

In the end, most women get the type of man they dress for.

??????

I guess that is true? Although it presupposes that women are dressing FOR MEN, which I disagree with. And this is like a play on "dress for the job you want," and I just don't know if relationships can be analyzed like jobs in the same way. But probably people who have similar fashion tastes will be drawn to each other. My fashion style is pretty casual, and occasionally dressed up, but usually casual. My husband is a software engineer who can wear t-shirts and jeans to work (except he works from home right now and could go in the buff if he wanted, but he actually likes wearing normal people clothes).

P.S. Do most men get the type of women they dress for?

Also, I just looked up the source and in the context I disagree with it even more.

It's so worldly, how you have to be well-turned out and sexy but not too sexy. Gag. And it trivializes true pornography. And has an extremely skewed view of male sexuality. Doth any good thing come out of Rexburg?

My wife jokes with me about how she almost didn't say yes to our second date because of the ugly plaid flannel thing I wore to our first date.

Anyways, I think there is undoubtedly a level of judgment that takes place based on appearances, but in terms of getting the right man, well, I don't think what you wear is the most important factor. It could be an interesting study, I suppose: have a control group that wears normal clothes and a test group that is coached to "dress for success" - my guess is there would be a slight increase in first-/second-dates for the test group, but in terms of long-term success, they'd come out even. The trouble would be in defining terms - what is a successful pairing for one person would seem wholly unsuccessful to another.
