Five most important LDS Films

Post by Unit of Energy »

Ok, so this was a question we discussed in class today. And I just wanted to get your thoughts on the matter. And since I think we'll all agree that the Testaments, Legacy, Joseph:Prophet of the Restoration, and other church released films will top the list, let's skip to the non church released films.

God's Army, one of the first films targeted to an LDS audience that was widely released
Singles Ward, one of two LDS comedies that I can always enjoy
Pride and Predijuce, the other comedy I always like
Turnaround, because of its prime examples of how easy it is to get Mormons to see an LDS film (the movie is not worth seeing)
New York Doll, Really good filmmaking

Saints and Soldiers should definitely be on the list somewhere. I think it was probably the most successful of any LDS film, and received quite a bit of critical acclaim.

I keep hearing good things about it, but have yet to see it. Adding to my list of movies to see.

and Grease?

If you can add Grease, I can add the Divine Comedy DVD.
The Epistler was quite honestly knocked on her ethereal behind by the sheer logic of this.

I haven't seen it yet, but there is also Passage to Zarahemla.

Also, what do you all think of the movie, Emma: My Story?

Mostly, I think of Emma Woodhouse.

Interesting question. I'd have to put Saints and Soldiers, The Best Two Years, and New York Doll on the list.

I think that Pride and Predjudice should be one of them (but I'm deeply bias).
As for really important LDS films (for LDS), Singles Ward and The Best Two Years are the only two I've seen (besides P&P) that I feel would qualify. I've heard great things of New York Doll and Saints and Soldiers, but since I haven't seen them, I can't give an honest opinion.

Hmm, tough... it is so silly! But the songs are unusually copacetic...

Never seen Singles Ward.

I just watched Singles 2nd Ward this weekend. There were a lot of jokes from all of the Hale Storm movies.

RM was okay.

Baptists at our BBQ was lame.

Home Teachers had a great soundtrack.

The Best 2 Years I actually liked.

However, I absolutely love One Smooth Stone, from the Liken the Scriptures series. Actually, I enjoyed them all...

Yep. Liken the Scriptures trumps all.
But thick as you are, pay attention!
My words are a matter of Pride.

My Goal: To make enough money to hire Jeremy Irons, the voice of Scar from The Lion King, to follow me around and do my dialogue.
