I don't know...he strikes me as a relatively intelligent guy, so I think he's perfectly capable of understanding other viewpoints -- but he's from a different generation. I think that's why he was so stubborn about certain things. A lot of the debates seemed to focus around generational issues, so I always figured his arguments were typical of a true blue LDS guy in his 60s. I mean, kids these days are doing it all wrong...

Sure. The closest thing to an argument I had with vorpal was over a topic that is fairly concrete and able to be discussed mathematically, and yet we still struggled to see where the other was coming from. It seems to me individuals discussing less quantifiable topics would have similar difficulties.

Sure.
You raise a good point that this is surely not a one-dimensional issue. I'll have to see if I can identify concrete differences in rhetorical style between yourself and VB.
