I don't know...he strikes me as a relatively intelligent guy, so I think he's perfectly capable of understanding other viewpoints -- but he's from a different generation. I think that's why he was so stubborn about certain things. A lot of the debates seemed to focus around generational issues, so I always figured his arguments were typical of a true blue LDS guy in his 60s. I mean, kids these days are doing it all wrong...

Sure. The closest thing to an argument I had with vorpal was over a topic that is fairly concrete and able to be discussed mathematically, and yet we still struggled to see where the other was coming from.
