Re: Life lessons
Before you try to shut down a behavior you don't like, spend some time trying to understand why that behavior is occurring in the first place. Like. I have this thought a lot with my kids, because the thing they are complaining about at the moment might not be the reason they are complaining in gen...

Re: Making out and its ramifications
Yayfulness, I think that is an excellent point, and one I have been struggling to remember lately. There are plenty of wonderful people in the world who have a cup of coffee in the morning, have a glass of wine with their dinner before sleeping with their long-term S.O.,etc, and nothing bad happens ...

Re: is staying home worth it?
This is a topic I really, really struggle with, to be honest. I feel, like the original question asker, stuck being told that this is "all I'm good for." Sure, some aspects of my life are good and worthy things- teaching my children morals, reading, and everything else are great things to ...

Re: New Name
I sometimes don't really connect my name with myself, but I don't really dislike it, either. And there's no name that I think would fit me better, either, so I'm happy sticking with the one I was given. This is exactly how I feel. I do sorta miss my high school nickname - I added a shortened form o...

Did you know that you can put a candy cane into a cotton candy machine and it makes cotton candy out of it? The Jolly Ranchers were our favorite tonight, though. They had a nice punch.
So weird.
So weird.

I'm with Nerdgirl on that too, so you'll have to get to both of us. Also, my husband and I were laughing at how strict the rules are, but then we started comparing it to the Missionary Handbook in our heads. They see themselves as representatives of Christ, and hence have strict rules, just like our...

Re: The brownie analogy
I never, ever would have gone near being a model before having kids. But once you've been poked and prodded that much over a period of months, and then nursing a long time after that, you lose a bit of your self-consciousness. Or at least I did. But I do think I would be more comfortable with the bi...

Re: #68651 - FB pregnancy announcement
This last time, I announced my pregnancy on my blog. I wasn't opposed to using facebook, but I had a lot to say about it, so that's where it went. In fact, I think I made my status something like "go read my blog." My mom got after me for not calling my siblings individually, but I did tha...

Re: What's for dinner?
Tonight my daughter really, really wanted soup. But "with nothing in it". Whenever there is "stuff" in soup she won't eat it. (Seriously?) So I made sweet potato soup, which was actually really good, and then a chicken salad for my husband who didn't really want to eat soup when ...

Has anyone found anything good on the Kindle lending library? The last few books I have gotten were highly ranked garbage, with horribly predictable plots, flat characters and errors. Seriously, how easy is it to get published on there? Anyway, any good recommendations?

Shameless plug for Peter Pan
The car buying advice was really good, but I would like to toss out a shameless plug. A guy in my ward (they are seriously the nicest couple in the world) has been an car mechanic for years and just recently started fixing up cars to sell them. Which makes it sound like the curbstoners Eliot mention...

Also keep in mind I have the calf muscle development of either a lifelong dancer or MLS player (take a guess which.) Not to force you into shopping at a store or anything, but I have found boot shopping a lot more difficult than shoe shopping because of the calf. Sometimes a pair of boots fit me pe...

Re: Happy Days in Random Chatter 10
For me, the answer has changed over time. I grew up with 5 brothers, and so living in the dorms my freshman year was a shock to the system. I preferred guy friends, when I could find them, because they made more sense to me than the hormonal, drama queen mess I saw around me. Since I got married and...

LOL. By the way, I really enjoyed the "A Little More Time" fic you recommended. I wasn't the one that asked the question, but I liked the advice. Also, when the Potterhead said werf liked "Peggy Sue" fanfics, I first thought of "Mary Sue" and thought "ugh, really? ...

Re: Canada does not know what a friendship bracelet is
We went on an Alaskan cruise last week (1%! 1%! 1%!!!!!! DEATH TO THEM ALL), and in Skagway I had to cross the border for about twenty minutes. That's it. Twenty minutes where we got off a bus and got onto a train, all within view of the Canadian border control guys, who got onto our bus to check o...

Re: #68926 Feet
Yeah, I think a missing element for this to have been seen as serious was a sentence like "I know most guys don't care about women's feet, but . . .". Instead, he mentions that "studies have shown that a foot fetish is one of the most common fetishes" and blames the women for not...

How do you know? My first reaction was "this is a joke", but then I had to go with "what if this guy is serious?" I'm just curious how you know for sure.mic0 wrote:Believe it or not, it was a serious question. Poor guy.

You know the poll "I am cleaning up my FaceBook friends. Do you still want to be friends?" or some variation of it? I have no idea why people answer it. Yet it has votes in the millions. I saw this morning that my mother answered it. And that made me want to bang my head on my desk, becau...
